How it started

In 1952, Bob Sheetz bought one of his father's five dairy stores in Altoona. The store sold milk, bread and everyday groceries. Over the next decade he opened more stores, and his brother Steve Sheetz joined the business and later helped lead its expansion.

Building a chain

Through the 1960s and 70s the stores grew into a convenience chain, and gas pumps followed. The family kept the company private and kept the headquarters in Altoona.

His legacy

The company Bob Sheetz started has grown into one of the largest family-owned convenience chains in the US, known for its made-to-order food and 24-hour stores. Family members have continued to lead it.
