How the MTO touchscreen works

At a Sheetz store you order hot food on a touchscreen kiosk, in the app or at the drive-thru. You choose a section, pick a base item, and then the screen walks you through bread, cheese, toppings and sauces. When you finish, the kiosk prints a numbered ticket. You pay for it at the register with the rest of your items, and the kitchen calls your number when it's ready.

Because every order starts from a base item and is then customized, the prices on this site are for the standard build. Most free toppings (lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, peppers) don't change the price. Premium add-ons like bacon, extra cheese, guacamole and extra meat do, and so do sauces.

Fish

Fish usually shows up on the screen during Lent and in some regions year-round. It's breaded and fried, and it contains fish, wheat and milk, so it's not a fit for most allergy-restricted diets.

Add-ons that change the price the most

The fastest way to turn a $6 order into a $10 one is stacking premium add-ons. These are the ones that show up on most screens, with typical upcharges:

  • Extra patty or double meat: about $2.49 and 250 calories.
  • Bacon: about $1.29 and 120 calories.
  • Guacamole: about $0.99 and 60 calories.
  • Extra or pepper jack cheese: about $0.70 and 90 to 100 calories.
  • Sauces: around $0.40 each. Boom Boom (about 110 cal), ranch (140) and garlic (180) are the heaviest. Buffalo is only about 20.
Try it: the MTO meal builder lets you tick add-ons and watch the price and calories change, so you can decide which extras are worth it.

Tips for ordering MTO

  1. Order in the app when it's busy. Lunch and the after-work rush can mean a 10 to 15 minute wait. An app order can be timed for pickup, and it earns Rewardz points automatically.
  2. Use the free toppings. Lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, banana peppers and jalapenos usually cost nothing, and they add bulk without adding many calories.
  3. Sauce on the side. If you're watching calories, ask for one sauce on the side rather than two on the item.
  4. Check the bread. Swapping to a pretzel roll adds calories and a small charge. A lettuce wrap is free on most items and saves around 180 calories.

Frequently asked questions

What does MTO mean at Sheetz?

MTO stands for Made To Order. It's the name for Sheetz's touchscreen kitchen menu, where you build burgers, subs, wraps, quesadillas and other hot food the way you want it.

Can you order MTO at the drive-thru?

Yes. Stores with a drive-thru take MTO orders at the speaker, and you pay at the window. The touchscreen and the app give you more customization options than the speaker does.

How long does an MTO order take?

Most orders are ready in about 5 to 10 minutes. During lunch and late-night rushes it can take 15 minutes or more, which is why ordering ahead in the app helps.

Is the MTO kitchen open overnight?

At nearly every store, yes. Sheetz kitchens run 24 hours, so you can order a burger at 3 a.m. or breakfast at dinner time.
