What Top Tier means

Top Tier is a fuel standard created by a group of automakers. Licensed gasoline contains higher levels of detergent additives than the EPA minimum, which helps keep intake valves and fuel injectors cleaner over time.

Does it matter for your car?

Many car manufacturers recommend Top Tier fuel in their owner's manuals. The benefit builds up over years: cleaner engine parts can help keep fuel economy and performance from slowly dropping. It doesn't mean higher octane, and it doesn't replace following your manual's octane recommendation.

Does Top Tier cover all grades at Sheetz?

When a retailer is licensed, the standard applies to every gasoline grade it sells under the program, including regular, mid-grade and premium. Check the Top Tier site for details on blends like Unleaded 88.

Frequently asked questions

Is Top Tier gas worth it?

If your car's manufacturer recommends it, yes. Top Tier stations are often no more expensive than others.

Is Sheetz premium higher octane than other stations?

Premium octane depends on the region, usually 91 to 93. Top Tier refers to detergents, not octane.
